Fattoria Resta is located in the municipality of Buonconvento, about 13 km from Montalcino and 30 km from Siena. The 16th century villa on the top of a hill 250 metres above sea level was originally home to a monastery owned by a noble family from Siena, as demonstrated by the coat of arms over the entrance. Just under one hectare of vineyards across from the villa produce Martin del Nero Orcia DOC. The name is that of the master builder who was in charge of the construction of the villa, recorded in the cellar of the building in an inscription which also mentions the "bono vino" or good wine, produced on the estate and records the date of the start of construction as March 13, 1573. Fattoria Resta also owns 2 hectares of vineyards in the municipality of Montalcino, including 1.5 ha registered for production of Rosso di Montalcino and 0.5 ha registered for production of IGT wines. The winery benefits from the technical consultancy of oenologist Paolo Caciorgna.

How to reach Fattoria Resta
If you are on the Cassia ss 2 coming from Siena, just after passing the town of Buonconvento (a couple of kilometers) on your right you will see the sign for Montalcino. Don't take that but instead turn left, you will see a blue sign for RESTA, dirt road. Take this road and consider that my house is exactly 1,5 kmts after the turn, the 4th house on your left. A big red brick building. You will see the vineyard on your right.
YOUR GUIDE: Your tour guide and resident expert for the week is Anna Lisa Tempestini. A dual citizen of Italy and the United States, raised in Florence, and twenty year resident of Buonconvento, Anna Lisa is the most accessible, knowledgeable, and utterly appealing of guides and a beloved friend of Borgo Finocchieto. Her services are sought by exclusive travel agencies worldwide, and her discerning palate and talent for understanding wine have earned the respect of wine producers and sellers. Her special relationship with well respected wine estates including Altesino, Caparzo, Paradiso di Frassina, and Costanti as well as local farmers and artisnal food makers means that you are welcomed as an old friend. Even better, this is a chance to witness up close the creation of her personal wine, Martin del Nero, which recently received the appellation of Orcia DOC.

There is no other guide quite like the exquisite, and incredibly knowledgeable Anna Lisa. Her understanding and knowledge of wine is incredible, and her love of the art and of the Tuscan region shine through in each moment you spend with her. I've had the wonderful pleasure of attending 3 tours with Anna Lisa (family and business groups) and have not only learned so much about wine - in particular brunello - but also about the people of the Tuscan region, and culture, arts and healthy living. I dream each day of going back to visit Resta and the other jewels Anna Lisa has introduced to me and my family.

Ciao AnnaLisa. As you are aware, Evie and I have been visiting Toscana each year for the past nine years. What makes each visit so special is to have made friends like you. Your guidance, suggestions, and tour arrangements were always so perfect. We look forward to seeing you this Sept. and will visit beforehand to see what you’re up to this year. Fondest regards, Evie&Joe Casselli

About Fattoria Resta
Anna Lisa Tempestini's Fattoria Resta lies at an altitude of 220 meters a.s.l., situated on the crest of a hill in the southern tip of Buonconvento's district. The DOC Orcia vineyard is made up of 1235 vines in an area of .20 hectares, planted there in 1999. Another 4200 square meters of vines were planted in 2002. At the end of every row of vines there is a rose bush, representing both the care taken in the fields and the respect given to such noble work. The areas dedicated to processing the grapes and aging the wine are located in the ancient structure of Fattoria Resta, build in the second half of the sixteenth century, as testified by an inscription on the central column of the cloister vault in the breathtaking wine cellar. Across town borders, in the territory of Montalcino, the winery's vineyards include .5 hectares of S. Antimo DOC and 1.5 hectares of Rosso di Montalcino DOC. Technical aspects of wine production are overseen by Paolo Caciorgna.
